What is the difference between a dinghy and a keel boat?A dinghy requires the weight of the crew to keep the boat upright and prevent it from capsizing. A keel boat has built-in ballast (usually led or iron embedded in the keel) that keeps the boat from capsizing. Dinghies are used for day sailing and have no accommodation. Keel boats are made for cruising and even ocean crossing.
